Displaying a HES Report and Score
The Home Energy Report and Score must be displayed on all listings and public advertisements of the home.
Displaying the Home Energy Score and Report is a two-step process. For homeowners working with real estate professionals or selling a home as 'for sale by owner', the requirements are the same. Follow the instructions below to learn more about displaying a Home Energy Score.
Working with a Real Estate Professional
Working with a real estate professional can be helpful in completing the Home Energy Score process. However, the home seller is the responsible party for compliance with the ordinance, so it is recommended that the homeowner personally confirm that the steps have been completed.
STEP 1: Advertisements
Include the Home Energy Score and a web link to the Home Energy Report in any advertising for the home, whether online, in a publication or on a sign posted at the house. This includes the original home listing. For listing agents, there is an automated process which makes it easy to add the Score and Report to the RMLS listing for the home.
Watch the Earth Advantage City of Portland HES video linked below to familiarize yourself with the automated RMLS listing process, and check out these Step-By-Step instructions from City of Portland.
STEP 2: Reports in the home
The homeowner will need to place printed copies of the HES Report in the house where prospective buyers will see it. The homeowner should confirm that the real estate representative will do this for the homeowner as part of coordinating home showings and open houses. Consider placing them on the kitchen counter or dining room table.
For Sale by Owner
The Home Energy Score requirements do not change for a 'For Sale by Owner' homesale process. Homeowners publicly listing a home for sale should follow the instructions below to learn how to display a Home Energy Report and Score.
STEP 1: Advertisements
Include the Score and a web link to the Report in any advertising for the home, whether online, in a publication or on a sign posted at the house, The HES Assessor who performed the HES assessment for the home will provide the homeowner with the HES Report web link. If the homeowner needs to locate your Score and Report, they can also find it online by entering the home address at the Green Building Registry. The homeowner can copy the web link provided for the Report in any online or media listings and include this statement updated with the HES information:
"Home Energy Score = [your score}. HES Report at {your Report web link}]".
STEP 2: Reports in the home
The homeowner needs to place printed copies of the report in the house where buyers will see it when displaying the home in person. Consider placing it on the kitchen counter or dining room table. The Report must be available for any open houses or home showings.
The City of MIlwaukie and City of Portland Home Energy Score programs have a similar disclosure process. Real Estate Professionals or homeowners seeking more information on how to upload and display a score can find more information on City of Portland's Home Energy Score website at: https://www.pdxhes.com/real-estate-professionals
