Update (6/10/22):

Remaining Paving Work Should Continue Next Week

This week, we successfully repaved Howe Street, between 42nd Avenue and 43rd Avenue, the small section of Covell Street, 43rd Court, and 43rd Avenue between Covell Street and Melody Lane.

We plan to return to finish repaving 43rd Avenue, between King Road and Melody Lane, on Tuesday, June 14 and Wednesday, June 15, weather permitting.

Construction work hours are permitted to be 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

What to Expect

  • Major traffic delays through the project site on these days.
  • Small sections of the site will be closed while we are actively paving and compacting the asphalt. Flaggers will be available to direct traffic around active construction zones.
  • Fresh asphalt takes 1-2 hours to cool to a safe and drivable temperature. Speak to a nearby construction worker if you need to cross fresh asphalt.
  • If you need to have access to your car on paving days, please consider parking outside the project area by 7 a.m.

Update (6/7/22):

Paving Work Scheduled for June 8 and June 9

We plan to repave 43rd Avenue, between King Road and Covell Street, and Howe Street between 42nd Avenue and 43rd Avenue on June 8 and 9, weather permitting. This work could extend into June 10, weather permitting, if we cannot finish by June 9.

Construction work hours are permitted to be 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. We would like to get this done in two days in case of rain on June 10, so we might work long hours to do so.

What to Expect

  • Major traffic delays through the project site on these days.
  • One lane of traffic will remain open on 43rd Avenue between Howe Street and King Road during paving, as we will pave one lane at a time.
  • If you need to have access to your car on paving days, please consider parking outside the project area by 7 a.m.
  • Fresh asphalt takes 1-2 hours to cool to a safe and drivable temperature. Speak to a nearby construction worker if you need to cross fresh asphalt.

Update (6/3/22):

June 1 – June 10

Our contractor, Tapani, does their best to stay on schedule, but please note that construction schedules may fluctuate due to weather, conditions underground, subcontractor schedules, or materials availability.

On 42nd Avenue, crews will:

  • Install permanent signage.

On 43rd Avenue, crews will:

  • Finish concrete for planters, sidewalks and driveways.
  • Prepare base rock for streets repairs and multiuse path.
  • Grind the road on Tuesday, June 7 and Wednesday, June 8. Expect major delays driving through the project site on these days.
  • Repave 43rd Avenue, between King Road and Covell Street, and Howe Street between 42nd Avenue and 43rd Avenue. This is now expected to be on June 8 and June 9, possibly extending into June 10. Expect major delays driving through the project site on these days.
  • If you need to have access to your car on paving days, please consider parking outside the project area by 7 a.m. because fresh asphalt takes 1-2 hours to cool to a safe and passable temperature.
  • If the crew cannot pave on these days, we will reschedule as needed. We might not know the crew’s schedule until the last minute.

  • Lay forms and do concrete work: installing sidewalks, driveways, and curb ramps along the east side of 43rd Avenue
  • Construct stormwater planters

On Howe Street, crews will:

  • Lay forms and do concrete work: installing sidewalks, driveways, and curb ramps along Howe Street

During the concrete pour of driveway entries, crews will maintain access to half of each driveway while working on the other half or letting it dry or cure. This means residents will have access to part of their driveway at all times (unless you are one of the four homeowners that the foreman has already spoken with personally).

Concrete Curb Pour This Week

The crew plans to pour the concrete curbs on Wednesday, April 13 and Thursday, April 14, weather permitting.

On Thursday morning, the crew plans to start at the intersection of Howe Street and 43rd Avenue and move southward on the east side of 43rd Avenue (going against the direction of traffic).

Please expect traffic delays during those two days.
