Milwaukie Recognized as a Tree City USA, Receives Growth Award
The city was once again recognized as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. To receive annual Tree City recognition, communities must meet four overarching standards: maintain a tree board or department, have a community tree ordinance, spend at least $2 per capita on urban forestry, and celebrate Arbor Day. Additionally, the city received a Growth Award from the Arbor Day Foundation. This is presented to participating Tree City USA communities that demonstrate higher levels of tree care and community engagement during the year. In 2017, Milwaukie officially became a Tree City USA. In 2019, the city adopted an urban forest management plan to protect local trees and manage the community's urban forest. Local trees provide countless ecosystem services and community benefits, while serving as a valuable tool in the fight against climate change. Managing and conserving trees is essential for the city.
