Milwaukie ranks third as "Most Walkable" city in Oregon
Out of the 36 Oregon cities ranked by the website, "Walk Score," Milwaukie ranked behind only Portland and Ashland as Oregon's most walkable cities.
Walk Score provides an online tool that rates neighborhoods based on their accessibility to city infrastructure, businesses, schools and public transport. The site uses a methodology based on what amenities can be reached without a car from any address. Higher points go to popular places that can be reached by lots of people. According to its website, Walk Score launched in July of 2007 and shows over 4 million scores every day and over 10,000 sites use Walk Score services.
"We're thrilled to be ranked so high," Public Affairs Manager Grady Wheeler said. "Our Walk Safely Milwaukie program is really just getting underway, so in a lot of ways, we think the best is yet to come in terms of pedesrian access and safety in the City."
