Fleet Awarded Eco-Biz Certification
The Milwaukie Fleet Maintenance Department has been awarded the Eco-Biz Certification by the Pollution Prevention Outreach Team of the Portland Oregon Metropolitan Area.
The EcoBiz Maintenance Certification Program recognizes mechanical shops that reach the highest standards in minimizing their environmental impact. The goal of the program is to prevent and minimize pollution generated by small businesses in the statewide area. This is the first multi-media (air, water and solid waste) maintenance services certification program in the nation.
To become certified, the Milwaukie Fleet Department adopted an extensive Checklist of sustainable practices including; substituting hazardous materials with less hazardous options, eliminating at least two sources of waste by changing operating practices, providing secondary containment for fluids to reduce possibility of spills entering storm drains, including waste reduction and pollution prevention in employee job descriptions.
By becoming a certified shop, the City of Milwaukie leads the way for private automotive repair shops to become certified by adopting sustainable practices. For more information, go to www.ecobiz.org.
