Alerts & Updates
June 28th, 2019: Work is now complete.
May 3rd, 2019: A final tree was planted on SE Madison Street last week. All of the driveway entries along the project site have been paved and all of the new ADA ramps are now complete. New crosswalk markings were painted, and a street sweeper came through and made it look nice.
April 17, 2019: Three new ADA ramps are under construction along the project site and many of the new and existing planter strips have been re-seeded with grass.
March 29, 2019: Most of the sidewalk has been installed for this project. Final street paving expected on Tuesday, April 2 on SE Madison Street, 30th Avenue, and Sellwood Street (between SE 30th Avenue and 32nd Avenue). In addition, sixteen new trees have been planted in the planter strip along SE 30th Avenue and Sellwood Street.
March 8, 2019: Work is progressing up Sellwood Street. The areas where sidewalk will be installed have had the soil removed in preparation of the sidewalk forms and gravel base being installed soon. Driveways are being staged for removal to minimize the impact on the homeowner. If you have freshly poured concrete at your driveway please refrain from driving on it until you have been given the okay from the contractor or you see that the caution tape has been removed and gravel has been placed at your driveway to fill in the small trench.
The contractor has completed all fence relocation and will continue demolition, preparing concrete forms and gravel base, getting inspections, and installing sidewalk and driveways. After this is completed, the crew will begin filling in the trench between the existing roadway and the new curb and they will begin landscape restoration to fill in the low sports behind the back of walks.
Feb. 22, 2019: Work has begun on Sellwood Street. Due to unforseen complications with three existing street trees, the city is requesting an Emergency Tree Removal to protect the work crew and future pedestrians along this stretch of sidewalk. New trees will be replanted at the end of the project.
Feb. 6, 2019: Work on Madison Street is nearly complete. Demolition and sidewalk construction has begun on 30th Avenue. Handwork has been required for the sidewalk adjacent to the three mature Sweetgum trees (on the east side of 30th Avenue) to prevent unnecessary stress or damage to the trees.
Jan. 15, 2019: Construction begins this week! Crews will begin demolishing the existing sidewalk on the west end of SE Madison Street and prepare to pour concrete for the new 6-foot-wide sidewalk that will run along the north side of the street. They will begin work on the concrete path leading to Milwaukie Elementary/El Puente, also.
Dec. 13, 2018:
- Tapani, Inc., was awarded the construction contract. The preconstruction meeting is scheduled for Dec. 18, 2018. Construction will begin at the start of the new year.
