Inspection Process

All projects have different requirements depending on what’s involved. Here is the general process:

Step 1: Erosion Control Inspection

If your project required an erosion control permit, a preliminary erosion control inspection must be approved before proceeding.

This inspection needs to be requested before 7am for a same-day inspection.

Step 2: Planning Inspection

If your project requires a planning inspection for zoning and setbacks (typically on new construction and for adding square footage to the building), this must be approved before proceeding to building inspections (including footing/foundation inspections).

The Planning division has 48 hours to complete this inspection due to scheduled meetings, counter coverage, etc., so please schedule accordingly.

Step 3: Building Inspections

All required building code inspections should be requested at the proper times during this stage.

Step 4: All Finals (except final building inspection)

All other final inspections (if applicable) except the building final should be requested and approved prior to requesting your building final. This may include your erosion control final, your planning final (the planning division has 48 hours to complete this inspection due to scheduled meetings, counter coverage, etc., so please schedule accordingly), your right-of-way final, and any other subpermits such as electrical, plumbing, mechanical finals, etc.

Step 5:  Final Building Inspection

The last step in the process is to request your Final Building Inspection. All work should be done. All other permits should be final.  All permits should be paid in full. A Certificate of Occupancy (if applicable) will be issued by the Building Official when the Final Building Inspection is approved.
