City Receives $1.1 Million Grant for Safe Routes to School
The Oregon Transportation Commission voted to award the City of Milwaukie $1,152,330 in Safe Routes to School funds to construct sidewalks, bike lanes and improved crossings on SE Linwood Avenue. The improvements will help make walking and biking to and from school a safer and healthier choice for Milwaukie families traveling to and from Linwood Elementary School.
The Linwood Safe Routes to School Project is estimated to cost $3.3 million and scheduled for construction in 2021. The Safe Routes to School funding will be matched with resources from the city’s Safe Access for Everyone (SAFE) program. SAFE calls for upgrading Milwaukie's network of connections, such as sidewalks, ramps and crossings, to fill gaps, replace portions that don’t meet ADA standards, and remove barriers for people to get where they need to go safely.
