Current Equity and Inclusion Priorities
Keen Independent Research, an equity research and consulting firm, completed an assessment of the current state of diversity, equity, and inclusion in city services and operations in fall 2023. Based on the findings from the assessment, Milwaukie's Equity Steering Committee (ESC) is currently developing a work plan to focus on the following over the next couple years:
- Communication, transparency, and storytelling: Actions could include adding more multicultural events, boosting communications about the equity program, and developing an equity reporting line.
- Recruitment, hiring, and retention: Actions could include supporting an annual job fair focused on attracting more diverse candidates and ensuring hiring processes are as unbiased as possible.
- Engagement pathways: Actions could include supporting internship or job shadow opportunities and engaging youth more in city governance.
Check back regularly for updates on actions in these areas.
