Earthquake Preparedness

Earthquakes can happen at any time of the year and occur without warning. The Milwaukie area is prone to earthquakes and will be affected by the Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake when it occurs.

If you are caught in an earthquake, remember to drop to your knees, cover your head and neck with your arms, and, if possible, hold on to sturdy cover, like a table leg.

Before an earthquake, there are lots of things you can do to make your home and workplace safe. This can include securing furniture to prevent tipping, making an emergency plan for your household, and storing enough water, food, and other essentials to last for at least two weeks.

As with any disaster, your best resource will be the people around you. To better prepare for emergencies, consider joining the Milwaukie Community Emergency Response Team
