Downtown Wayfinding Systems Plan
Wayfinding in Downtown Milwaukie!
The city has an adopted Wayfinding Plan for downtown and we are in Phase 1 implementation!
Phase 1 was funded by a combination of city funds and a grant from Metro. A total of 14 vehicular and pedestrian signs, as well as an information kiosk, will be installed as part of Phase 1 and will be completed by July 2019. However, those signs affected by construction projects on Washington St and at the Ledding Library will be installed at a later time.
Please review the Legend Plan set under Supporting Documents to see the design and sign locations.
What is wayfinding?
Wayfinding is a system of information that helps guide people through a physical environment while enhancing understanding and cohesiveness. A wayfinding system typically includes signage, maps, information kiosks, and other means of providing spatial and directional information.
In Milwaukie, our goal is to create a wayfinding system that increases the attractiveness of Downtown Milwaukie by helping residents, employees, employers, and visitors navigate by foot, bike, and car efficiently to area destinations and amenities while also creating positive perceptions for the area.
As part of the process for creating a wayfinding system plan for downtown Milwaukie, there were many opportunities for public input and engagement including two public meetings, the Sunday farmers market, and a wayfinding survey. You told us what you think and now we are making it happen! Let us know what you think!
