Economic Vitality Committee
The Main Street Milwaukie program is currently inactive. Contact Teri Bankhead at bankheadt@ci.milwaukie.or.us or 503-786-7573 for additional information.
The goal of the Economic Vitality Committee is to assist existing downtown buisiness in identifying and taking advantage of business opportunities, and encourage prospective new businesses to locate in downtown Milwaukie.
Overview
Economic Vitality involves analyzing current market forces to develop long-term solutions. Recruiting new businesses, creatively converting unused space for new uses, and sharpening the competitiveness of Main Street's traditional merchants are examples of economic restructuring activities.
The objectives of the Main Street Milwaukie Economic Vitality Committee include:
- Improved understanding of downtown Milwaukie's economic reality.
- Supporting the success of existing downtown businesses.
- Encouraging new businesses to locate in downtown.
- Recruiting new members to strengthen the committee.
For Building and Business Owners
Economic vitality focuses on retaining and expanding successful downtown businesses to provide a balanced commercial mix, sharpening the competitiveness and merchandising skills of business owners, and attracting new businesses that the market can support. Converting unused or underused commercial space into economically productive property also helps boost the profitability of the district. The goal is to build a commercial district that responds to the needs of today's consumers.
How can you help?
- Convert unused or underused commercial space downtown into economically productive uses.
- Make sure your merchandise meets the needs of the community.
- Talk to your friends and tell them why downtown Milwaukie is a great place to do business!
