Mayor cutting ribbon at Wine: 30 Parklet
To celebrate the completion of the first project under the City’s Parklet Pilot Program - an initiative that swaps out a couple parking spaces for temporary patios built for outdoor seating - Mayor Jeremy Feruson will cut the ribbon of the Wine: 30 parklet, located at 10835 SE Main St. on Friday, Sept. 19, 2104, at 6 p.m.
“This is an exciting addition to our downtown,” Ferguson said. “Parklets and special events add vibrancy to our already charming Main Street. I commend our staff for putting together this innovative program, and I commend the owner of Wine :30, Jesse Cannelos for stepping up and creating a really exciting amenity.”
The event will feature special happy hour prices, a wine tasting, and live music.
The City developed the pilot project as part of the City's economic development initiative to build thriving business districts. The project raised the interest of a handful of downtown business owners, but Cannelos is the first to act. His parklet will use the two parking spaces in front of his business and will include tables and chairs, planters, railings and ornamental lighting. The approved pilot program dates are June 2014 through November 2014 and April 2015 through November 2015.
Cannelos funded the effort with the help of an online “Kickstarter” campaign, which raises funds through small contributions from individuals.
