City of Milwaukie Oregon Official Website

Beginning on Mon., Sept. 30th, S-2 Contractors will close Harrison Street from Highway 224 to Campbell Street to begin reconstruction of this portion of the road. Be cautious when traveling through this area. DETOUR ROUTES HAVE BEEN SET UP TO DETOUR TRAFFIC AROUND THIS CLOSURE. PLEASE FOLLOW DESIGNATED DETOUR ROUTES.

Harrison Street Reconstruction Project
With the completion of the Light Rail-related construction near the railroad crossing and the City’s water line replacement project, this project will reconstruct the portion of Harrison between McLoughlin Boulevard and Highway 224, and tie in with the Harrison roadwork completed under last year’s Street Surface Maintenance Project.

Project Area: Harrison Street between McLoughlin Boulevard and Campbell Street
Duration: Sept. 15 through the end of October
First segment - McLoughlin Blvd. to 23rd Avenue
Second segment – Campbell Street to 26th Avenue
Construction Hours: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Traffic Impacts: Harrison Street will be closed during construction hours and detours will be in place.

Project Details:
The roadway will be reconstructed, which entails milling off the top layers of the roadway, laying a 10-inch cement-treated base, and repaving with 6 inches of new asphalt.
The cement-treated base process creates more dust than is typical, but decreases construction time, construction traffic, and the amount of vibration.
New pavement markings – center line and parking spaces.

Main Street Resurfacing Project
In June, the Engineering Department talked with downtown business owners and operators to 1) better understand how the paving project could be tailored to be less impactful to operations, and to 2) seek feedback on whether the project should be undertaken this summer or next.
Several public meetings were also held, and with the input gathered City Council directed staff to arrange that construction take place over night. The intent is that this will result in less business and traffic impacts and the project will be completed in a shorter period of time.

Project Area: Main Street from Scott Street to Washington Street (5 blocks)
Duration: Late August through Sept. 12

Project Details:
12 sidewalk ramps along Main Street will be reconstructed to be brought into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
2.5 inches of existing roadway will be ground away and replaced with 2.5 inches of asphalt.
New pavement markings – center line, crosswalks, and parking spaces.=

Staff is still looking for ways to minimize impacts to both business and residents when possible. If you have questions or concerns, please contact Brad Albert, the project manager for both projects.
