Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Members

CERT members helping at a city event

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training is a national program designed to prepare Clackamas County residents to help themselves, their families, and their neighbors in the event of a disaster.

Free training classes are offered twice yearly and are taught by FEMA certified local trainers. Check the link below to learn more about the next class. Preregistration is required. The training takes place over three Saturdays (8 hours each day) for a total of 24 hours. The training combines classroom and hands-on skills training. Following graduation, trainees have the option to apply to join one of the four active CERT teams within Clackamas Fire District's boundaries.

About CERT: Milwaukie's CERT was founded in 2010. There are now more than 35 active members and many more who are trained in disaster preparedness skills. Active members meet for drills twice monthly: the second Saturday morning or a varying week-night evening of each month. They conduct a GMRS radio network call-in monthly. They also participate in other area advanced training opportunities and support community events such as the Prescription Drug Turn-In and Shred Day and the Umbrella Parade.

Milwaukie CERT members are committed to helping their own families and their neighbors following a disaster event, and expect to provide assistance to the community at that time. This may include helping emergency shelters, providing damage assessment, and light search and rescue operations.
