Fireworks Prohibited in Milwaukie
Community members are encouraged to take note of a recent code change regarding fireworks. In February 2023, City Council passed ordinance 2225, which prohibits the sale, possession and use of fireworks in Milwaukie city limits. The maximum possible fine for a fireworks violation is $1,000.
In the past, temporary bans have been placed on the use of fireworks when the risk of wildfires was high. After weighing their potential impacts to veterans, pets and wildlife, as well as the continuing fire hazards they pose to homes and other structures, especially during the drier summer months, City Council decided to make the ban permanent. Community members may notice fireworks stands are missing this summer as well. The new ordinance extends to them, along with permanent stores and businesses, within city limits.
For those looking to celebrate Independence Day with fireworks, the city encourages community members to attend public fireworks displays in the area, outside of Milwaukie.
