Accessory Dwelling Unit Code Audit
Families and individuals across the income spectrum want to call Milwaukie home. Financing, construction costs, building codes, and land use regulation requirements can make it costlier to build housing of all types and can limit the supply. The Milwaukie Housing Affordability Strategy (MHAS), adopted on July 17th of 2018, includes two action statements that specifically address the provision of ADUs in the community. The MHAS recommends revising development standards to facilitate ADU development, including right-sizing parking requirements and creating financial incentives and support.
The City of Milwaukie (“the City”) has hired Cascadia Partners to provide a rapid assessment of the existing zoning code standards and fees related to ADUs and develop recommendations aimed at enabling the development of more cost-effective ADUs in the city.
ADU Working Group (ADUWG)
The City has convened an ADUWG to serve as a sounding board for the concepts and solutions that are developed through the course of the code audit update. The make up of this group includes banks and credit union representatives, housing advocates, architects, and ADU developers/builders.
