Court Security & Prohibited Items
Security at Milwaukie City Hall is provided by Oregon Patrol Services. Security equipment in use includes hand-held metal detecting wands. If you have a pacemaker, tell the security officer about it before you are scanned. The security screening process may create long lines of people waiting to enter the building during peak hours. Please plan your court visit accordingly.
The main objective of Court Security is to maintain a safe and secure environment for everyone in the building. Everyone’s cooperation is needed to achieve this very important goal. Weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited per ORS 166.370 through ORS 166.377 and may be confiscated. Among items prohibited are guns, regardless of a concealed-carry permit, knives, ammunition, pepper spray, mace, razor blades, illegal drugs, and any other type of dangerous or hazardous objects or items. A variety of items may be prohibited because they are hazardous or could be used as weapons. That includes any sharp, pointed objects with a cutting blade, regardless of length. If you are unsure if an item is allowed, the safest option is not to bring it into the building.
Security will not hold unauthorized items for return later. Any prohibited item that is brought to the courthouse will be taken from you and permanently destroyed.
