Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How long should we expect this project to take?
A: Projects of this complexity typically require several years of planning, community engagement, fundraising, design, and permitting before construction can begin. Once construction begins, the project may be completed in as fast as one year, or as long as two years. However, that cannot be determined until final design is complete.
Q: What is the project timeline?
A: The project was initiated, and site studies began in the fall of 2022 (Phase 1). Scoping, design, and permitting consultation will begin in late 2023 and is tentatively slated to end in 2025 (Phase 2). Construction is targeted to begin in 2026, pending funding and the completion of Phase 2 in 2025.
Q: How can the local community weigh in on the project?
A: Opportunities for the community to participate in project development will occur in Phases 1 and 2 while the project is being collaboratively planned, designed, and permitted. These opportunities include listening sessions, site tours, multi-lingual online surveys, translation services, meetings with tribal representatives, presentations, and mechanisms for incorporating direct feedback into the design process. Information will be provided on this project webpage, and opportunities will be advertised directly through community organizations and by email to those that submit the contact form below. Pending notification of NOAA grant funding in December 2022, the North Clackamas Watershed Council intends to partner with the Clackamas County Chapter of Unite Oregon and Confluence Environmental Center AmeriCorps members to ensure robust and equitable community engagement. Benefits of this partnership will include cross-cultural outreach, educational opportunities, and a robust outreach and education approach that addresses factors that might otherwise limit community participation.
