Community Involvement and Outreach

City of Milwaukie Oregon Official Website

Since the project kick-off in January 2011, staff has focused on reaching as many members of the community as possible in order to hear what they would like residential development in their city to look like. The following is a summary of outreach efforts and community involvement to date.

OUTREACH

  • Public Outreach Summary: A summary of community outreach efforts between January and May 2011.

  • Community Survey Summary Report: In January and February of 2011, City staff distributed a survey to gauge community opinion on the look of single-family and multifamily housing and to learn more about the community’s housing needs and preferences. This document summarizes all survey responses received.

  • Community Interview Results: A summary of interviews conducted with 20 community members.

  • Pilot articles: Several articles have been included in The Pilot, the City's monthly newsletter:
  • Flikr page: This album was created for posting photos of single-family and multifamily buildings around the region to use as examples for the Milwaukie Residential Development Standards Update project. Visitors can view all the photos in the set by clicking the title that says “City of Milwaukie photostream”, or they can view categorized photos by clicking on "Sets."

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Staff established a project Steering Committee made up of Planning Commissioners, members of the Milwaukie Design and Landmarks Committe, NDA representatives, and community residents. The Steering Committee provides policy direction and feedback on proposed policies. In addition, stakeholder focus groups, made up of 5 to 7 people,  were convened to discuss specific issues with staff and provide feedback and direction.
