Current and Proposed Policies

In response to extensive community input, staff has identified the following key values that will direct policy:
- Be clear and objective. To be easy to understand and implement.
- Be style neutral. To allow a wide variety of building designs and site layouts that “work” in all of Milwaukie’s neighborhoods.
- Be flexible. To allow reasonable building design and site development variations.
- Support compatibility. To facilitate building designs and site development that “fits” within Milwaukie’s existing neighborhoods.
- Support good building design and site development without being cost prohibitive. To keep Milwaukie an affordable place to live.

- Current Residential Development Standards (reformatted): The City's current residential development standards reformatted for clarity.
- Case Study Site Illustrations: Illustrates the development that would be allowed under the current standards.
- Current Allowed Dwelling Typologies: A memo describing current housing types allowed in the City
- Housing Type by Zone: An illustration of current housing types allowed in the City's lower- and higher-density residential zones.
Proposed Policies
- Single-Family Residential Design Standards - Proposed Policies : This document outlines the draft policy goals and proposed SFR design standards for Steering Committee input.
- Single-Family Residential Development Standards - Issues and Options: This document outlines the draft policy goals, key questions, current development standards, compatibility issues and tools, conditional uses, and compatibility photos.
- Single-Family Residential Development Standards - Potential Modifications: This document describes and illustrates modifications to the current development standards that could make new dwellings more compatible with existing buildings.
- Multifamily Residential Development and Design Standards: This document outlines the draft policy goals and proposed MFR design and development standards for Steering Committee input.
