Overview
The planning department works with residents and community leaders to develop long range planning documents which guide the growth and development of the community. These documents implement the Community’s Vision to become a flourishing city that is entirely equitable, delightfully livable, and completely sustainable by 2040. The City’s Comprehensive Plan is primarily a land use document that strives to implement the Community Vision. The department is also responsible for ensuring new development follows the city’s vision and comprehensive plan for growth through the development review process, otherwise known as current planning.
Milwaukie's planning department manages projects that fall into four distinct categories:
-
Current planning: fulfilling the city’s development review and permitting responsibilities through the Municipal Code. Learn about development-related projects on the Submitted Application Page.
-
Long-range planning projects: planning for the evolution of the community
-
Regulation improvements: developing and implementing both large and small code and policy changes in the Municipal Code and the Comprehensive Plan. Improvement also serves to clarify the development review process.
-
Community development: supporting the Community Development Department to develop and implement projects of significance related to housing and economic development.
