Body-Worn Cameras
In an effort to increase community trust and transparency, the Milwaukie Police Department is implementing a body-worn camera program beginning July 2022. The program will include a department policy to guide the use of the cameras, which is currently being developed. To help inform the creation of the policy, the city is inviting the community to learn more about them and participate in a conversation online at Engage Milwaukie.
Body-worn cameras are relatively small devices that record interactions between community members (such as the general public, suspects and victims) and law enforcement officers. The video and audio recordings from body-worn cameras can be used by law enforcement to document statements, observations, behaviors and other evidence, and to deter unprofessional, illegal and inappropriate behaviors by both law enforcement and the community.
