Milwaukie Police Chief Ryan Burdick sworn into office

Chief Ryan Burdick gave the Chief's oath of office at the Milwaukie City Council meeting on April 9th. An internal and external recruitment process was ran in early 2024 and Chief Burdick was selected as the Milwaukie Police Department head.

Chief Ryan Burdick was hired by MiPD in January 2002.  He has his BA in Accounting from Western Oregon. Ryan previously served four years active duty in the Army as an M60 gunner and three years in the National Guard.   He has served MiPD in detectives, as patrol Sergeant for about ten years, and as the Detective Sergeant.  He was promoted to Operations Captain in 2019.  He is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s (SPI) Administrative Officer’s Course (AOC) at the University of Louisville.  Some milestones in Chief Burdick's career include the MiPD's implementation of body worn cameras and starting an uncrewed aircraft systems (drone) program.
