Water Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q. I don't have as much pressure as I did before, why?
A. Usually it is not a pressure problem. Try cleaning the debris from the screens in your faucets. If this does not correct the problem, call 503-786-7600 and the water department will assist you in identifying the cause.
Q. Why is my water bill so high?
A. There are five utilities billed on your utility bill, Water, Sewer, Storm, SSMP and SAFE. If you see an increase in water consumption, other than summer irrigation, please call 503-786-7525 for help identifying a possible leak.
Q. Is my water safe to drink?
A. Yes. Milwaukie water meets or exceeds all State and Federal safe drinking water requirements. Staff samples our water system for over 300 contaminants annually to insure the highest possible quality for our customers.
Q. My water tastes different today, why?
A. The most common reason is a pressurized garden hose will backflow into your plumbing. To insure this from happening, disconnect all garden hoses from the faucet or install an atmospheric vacuum breaker to each outside faucet.
