Disputing a HES Report
Home Energy Score assessors follow established US DOE methodology to calculate a Home Energy Score. If you think there's a mistake, follow the process below:
Read up on HES methodology:
Make sure you understand your score and HES report by visiting the US DOE Home Energy Score page to access informational resources, including the HES methodology.
Click here to visit the US DOE Home Energy Score Methodology Website: https://betterbuildingssolutioncenter.energy.gov/home-energy-score/home-energy-score-methodology
Contact your HES assessor:
Contact the assessor that performed your HES assessment if you need further explanation or want to dispute your score. The assessor will be able to provide more information about how a score is calculated and an explanation of home features that went into creating the score. They will also be able to make corrections to the score and/or the report if any errors are identified.
Do not reach out to another HES assessment company to re-score your home based on a score dispute alone. This complicates the home's scoring in the regional system and database, and may complicate the process. Instead, contact your original assessor as described above.
If needed, reach out to the city:
If a resolution cannot be made between the home owner and the original HES assessor, city staff will review the dispute and discuss potential next steps with the homeowner and with the quality assurance team for the Home Energy Score program. You can contact the city by emailing homeenergyscore@milwaukieoregon.gov or calling 503-786-7688.
