Kickoff Event Overview
Many thanks from ALIGN planning and the City of Milwaukie to all who attended the April 1st Kickoff Event for the Fresh Look Milwaukie: Downtown Road Map project! We had a great turnout of close to 40 people, making for a cozy and lively event in the North Main Building (thanks again to Thomas Kemper for donating the space!).
A broad range of community members attended, from established to new residents, young and old, business owners and employees, developers and even a City Councilman and several Planning Commissioners!
With pizza and snacks to bolster attendees’ energy, dynamic small group discussions resulted in identification and prioritization of key elements to enhance Downtown Milwaukie. Ideas for capitalizing on Downtown’s assets ranged from holding a tamale festival to adding paddle boarding and kayaking rental opportunities to the Riverfront. Participants spent their “Milwaukie Bux” on the items they found most important, and at the end of the workshop the Bux were tallied up. The results are attached.
Wish you could have voted with your “Milwaukie Bux”? Don’t worry – there is a community workshop coming up on May 9th! Keep an eye out for details. This workshop will focus on prioritizing specific projects and strategies (rather than overarching issues) to improve Downtown. We need your input, and hope to see you there!
